Spa Frog is a water treatment system built inline into all Caldera Spas and Standard on Marquis Signature series Hot Tubs.  It is also a option on the Vector Series and E-Series Hot Tubs by Marquis.  The Spa Frog system is a 2 part water treatment system using a mineral dispenser and  bromine (chlorine one will be addressed later in this article.)  The system is built directly into your spa plumbing eliminating the need to manually add harsh chemicals such as bromine or chlorine.  spa frog3 The mineral portion of the system lasts 4 months and the bromine part lasts 3-4 weeks.  This system is designed for hot tubs up to 600 gallons of water.  In a typical Hot Tub you want the Bromine level to be between 3-5 parts per million whereas in the frog system the Bromine level stays at a 1 PPM.  This makes the hot tub much less harsh chemically and allows you to have a more pleasant soaking experience.  The minerals also make the water feel silkier and less harsh.  No daily chemical additions are needed.

For those of you who prefer Chlorine as a sanitizer Spa Frog recently introduced the @ease system.  It is very similar to The original Spa Frog system but instead of the Bromine Cartridge you use a @ease Chlorine Cartridge.  It works in the same manner as the Bromine system with the added benefit of shocking once per month instead of weekly.

Here are the directions on Spa Frog use:

  1. Fill your Hot Tub
  2. If water is high in minerals or metals use Serena Spa Stain and Scale
  3. Maintain a ph level of 7.2-7.8
  4. Maintain a Alkalinity level of 80-150
  5. Maintain a Calcium level of 150-250
  6. Add a dose of Spa Frog Jumpstart
  7. Add the Bromine Cartridge/@Ease Cartridge and Mineral Cartridge
  8. Once a week with the Bromine system shock tub or monthly with @Ease
  9. Replace Bromine/@ease Cartridge roughly once per month
  10. Replace Mineral Cartridge every 4 months (typically when you would do a drain and refill)
  11. Enjoy your Hot Tub

Why a hot tub?  Most people that have bought Hot Tubs from us have asked why they didn’t buy one 5 or 10 years ago. They comment: they feel more relaxed, they sleep better, it’s a place of sanctuary, where there are no cell phones or distractions; increased family time, and that their aches and pains have greatly diminished since they have owned one.

With modern technology, Hot Tubs have become more energy efficient, more diverse in offerings, and much more affordable.  We carry three absolutely wonderful Hot Tubs, Caldera Spas, Marquis Spas, and Nordic Hot Tubs. In this next section we will walk you through each line so that you can better understand each brand.

We will start with the Nordic Hot Tub line. They are known for their dual therapy system and provide benefits such as simple relaxation. The dual therapy system is the whirlpool jet combined with the high flow massage jets.  They carry a lifetime warranty on their shell and are generally the most affordable Hot Tub we carry (price ranges from $3500-$7500).  My favorite assets of Nordic Hot Tubs are that they are very simple to work on, fairly inexpensive, and their customer service is great to work with.  They are a smaller company, made in Michigan . At this point, I have met most of the company, from the owner, to some of the guys on the assembly line. They genuinely care about the products they make and strive for excellence. They also have a great reputation for standing behind their product. stella-ms-lifestyle

Next we will go to the Marquis Spas line. They make 4 very distinct lines of tubs with many different features and benefits.  They make the Celebrity Series, the E-Series, the Vector line and the Signature Spa. Being in the Northeast, cold weather is a big concern. The E-Series, Vector, and Signature Spas lines are fully insulated tubs, and can be completely customized for all of your wants and needs. The E-Series Tubs sell between $6,000-$10,000, depending on options and wants.  They are known to be great family tubs with roomy seats and powerful jets. The best thing about these tubs, in my opinion, is if you are on a budget, you can get a great tub for a very good price. This is especially true if you aren’t concerned about fancy lighting, stereos, or chemical treatment packages.  If you do like those options, they can be added to any of these tubs. The vector series is their newest addition. These tubs are like no other tub on the market. Each seat has individual controls to customize your jet pressure. These tubs range in price from $7,000-$11,000, depending on options.  The vector 94 has quickly become our number one seller. This is a giant tub, with all the power you could ask for, at a price that doesn’t break the bank. Check out the video below to learn more about this series of tubs.

The signature tubs are a completely different vessel like no other.  They utilize what they call a “tri-zone valve” for their Hot Zone therapy treatment. The Marquis Signature Tubs have the most powerful jets in any Hot Tub I have ever soaked in. They are designed to work each section of your body in different stations.  By moving from seat to seat in a Signature Tub, there will not be a muscle that is not deeply massaged. These Tubs range in Price from $9,000-$18,000. They come standard with the frog water treatment system, which makes water care simple and easy.  These tubs can also be ordered with the Microsilk option. This has been a very popular choice for people who suffer from skin conditions or are looking for the benefits of skin purification.  Watch the video below to learn more about Microsilk:

Caldera Spas is the final brand we sell. Whether you choose the Vacanza Series, the Paradise Series or the Utopia Series, you are getting the same construction in every tub. The differences between tubs when you go up in series, is the jetting types, the pump size, the circulation pumps, and the warranties. All the tubs they manufacture are insulated with Fiber Cor, which insulates up to 4x more than traditional foam. All the tubs come standard with the spa frog water treatment system, and all of the tubs come with great lighting features. Caldera is made by Watkins manufacturing, which is the largest spa manufacturer in the world. They have built over 1 million spas! There are too many benefits to list as to why they make the best tub. If you are looking for style, design, and elegance, a Caldera Spa is the spa for you.  They make Spas that range in price from $5500-$19,000, with most falling in the $7,000-$9,000 range.

soak If family time, relaxation, and warm swirling water is what’s important to you, you would most likely want to check out the E-Series, Nordic Hot Tubs or the Vacanza Series tubs. If vigorous massage is you number one priority, we recommend you check out the Vector Series, Signature Spas, or Utopia Series. If style, elegance, design and long warranty are what’s most important to you, check out the Utopia Series, Paradise Series, or Signature Series. By carrying these 3 lines of tubs, we feel that we are your one stop shop for all your hot tub needs! Black Friday and Small Business Saturday Specials are going on now! Last night, as I was watching TV, I kept seeing a commercial over and over again about a Spa Expo, this weekend only, in Providence, RI.  I also saw it advertised on Google, as well as, on Facebook.  The ad said something to the effect of over 50 tubs on display, many major manufacturers in attendance, and prices 50% off.  Wow, that sounds like a great deal right?  I carry major manufacturer lines of hot tubs why wasn’t I invited?

What the Spa Expo folks fail to tell you is that it’s only one manufacturer, selling under different product offerings at ‘50% off’.  It’s a scam they pull off every weekend across the country.

Here’s how they work: They assign phony, sky-high MSRP amounts to the tubs and cut the price until you bite.  That spa they claim is normally $20,000, is ‘on sale’ at the expo for $9999 which can actually be bought in a retail environment for $8,000 or so.  To do an event like the one they are doing in Providence takes a huge investment.  You are looking at a bill of $40,000-$50,000 in advertising, $5,000+ for the venue, plus the cost of hiring the slick sales people for the weekend.  They are making close to a 10% commission plus all expenses paid.  You are paying for all those associated costs.

Then you get into the service aspect of things.  These guys go from city to city every weekend dumping as many tubs in a market as they can, and then you won’t see them for another 6 months to a year.  What happens if you have a problem with your hot tub?  Chances are you will be dealing with the manufacturer direct or a independent repair man who will charge astronomical trip fees to get the warranty work done.  Doesn’t sound like such a great deal now does it?

I’ve gone to these shows before to hear their spiel.  This is what you will hear: Our Spas are the only hot tubs that you don’t have to use chemicals in. They will talk about the horsepower size in their hot tubs and how wonderful the company is.  It will be a high pressure, buy now environment.

If this was a true Spa Expo you would see more local companies involved.  None of the local companies do events like this because to make money, you would have to charge astronomical prices on Hot Tubs. Most of the reputable dealers in the area are too ethical to play these games.

Before you make the mistake of purchasing at this expo, please note, we have Nordic Hot Tubs from $3,495 in stock, Caldera Spas in stock from $4,995 and Marquis Spas in stock from $5,995.  All with real prices. All priced to save you money, backed by strong manufacturers, and a local dealer for support after the sale. Whether you buy from Apollo Pools and Spas or one of our competitors, keep your money local.  You’ll have peace of mind knowing you made a wise investment.
